Cody Slack – Professional Photographer Bio
With his acute sense of detail and prodigious love for motor sports, Cody Slack has become a recognizable force in the automotive photography industry. Armed with his Canon 5D Mark ii and multiple Gopro units, Mr. Slack is the “go-to” photographer for all major racing and drift series. After more than a decade of professional work in the photography industry, Cody Slack has developed an impressive repertoire that will keep him relevant for years to come.
Growing up the son of an electronics storeowner, Cody was continuously surrounded with the best computer and camera technology on the market. By seventh grade, his propensity toward high-tech gadgets had evolved into somewhat of an obsession, specifically with top of the line photography equipment. Cody was ecstatic when he received a Nikon N80 as a Christmas present later that year. He put it to use immediately.
At the young age of 12, Cody began his career shooting film and photography for his friends’ skateboarding videos and magazines. During high school he quickly gained a reputation amongst his teachers and peers, traveling the country competing in regional and national cinematography contests. After graduating high school Cody left Texas and moved to Winter Park Florida where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Film at the highly regarded Full Sail University.
Having graduated from college, Cody returned to Houston and immediately went to work shooting photography for a local automotive dealership specializing in luxury and exotic vehicles. There he was introduced to a man named John Hennessey, a pioneer of high performance automotive engineer. This meeting in particular served as the inspiration for an even greater dream – to be a professional photojournalist for an established motorsport media outlet. Fueled by this new ambition, Cody once again relocated to Florida where he worked on marketing campaigns for Chevy, Toyota, Hundai and Kia.
After several years of traveling the country and working on numerous projects, Cody Slack has recently returned to his hometown of Houston Texas. He is now owner and managing partner of the online media source ApexUSblog. The self-proclaimed “Chronicle of All Things Cars,” is an automotive enthusiasts paradise, covering any and all motorsports related news from Formula 1 to local SCCA events. The site contains a wide array of automotive photography taken at locations such as Mazda Speedway Laguna Seca and Summit Point Raceway. In addition, there are several videos for viewing including a mini documentary that covers the daily life of a professional drift team competing in the 2011 pro-am drift circuit. At just 24 years old, Cody Slack is turning his dream into reality. ApexUSblog is expanding daily and exciting new projects are in the works.
